Fire Escape Restoration
4Ever Construction completed fire escape restoration work on a multi-story masonry building, addressing exterior fire escape systems along the front, side, and rear elevations. The project involved the restoration of multiple interconnected fire escape platforms, stair runs, ladders, railings, support brackets, and structural steel components exposed to years of weathering and environmental conditions.
The restoration process began with a detailed assessment of the existing fire escape assemblies to identify areas of corrosion, deteriorated metal, failing paint, and worn or compromised components. The work included preparing the existing steel surfaces, removing loose rust and deteriorated coatings, and addressing areas requiring repair to establish a sound substrate for the restoration system.
Restoration efforts focused on the fire escape stairs and platforms, including the horizontal walking surfaces, vertical risers, guardrails, handrails, support angles, brackets, and connecting structural members. The work also included attention to the underside of platforms and stair assemblies, where moisture accumulation and prolonged exposure can contribute to corrosion and coating failure.
Where required, deteriorated metal components and connection areas were repaired or reinforced to restore the integrity of the existing assemblies. The surrounding masonry attachment points were also carefully coordinated to ensure that the fire escape systems remained properly supported and integrated with the building façade.
Following preparation and repairs, the metal surfaces were refinished with a protective anti-corrosion coating system. Sherwin-Williams anti-corrosion paint was used to provide durable protection against moisture, rust, and continued exposure to the elements. The coating application restored a uniform, finished appearance while helping extend the service life of the fire escape components.
The project included work on both street-facing and interior-rear fire escape systems, requiring careful coordination around building occupants, adjacent structures, narrow access areas, and active pedestrian surroundings. Safety measures, controlled work areas, and proper access planning were maintained throughout the restoration process.
The completed work improved the overall appearance, durability, and condition of the fire escape assemblies while preserving the building’s existing architectural character. This project reflects 4Ever Construction’s experience in exterior metal restoration, façade-related repairs, and the rehabilitation of aging fire escape systems for New York City multi-family and mixed-use properties.
